Microdermabrasion is a popular treatment, seen at most beauty salons. I wanted to give it ago so I headed into Loft Beauty Boutique, Mt Eden to experience it first hand.
Microdermabrasion is a non-chemical, non-invasive procedure where we a pen-like machine that uses a spray of microcrystals to remove the outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells and reveal younger, healthier-looking skin. Microdermabrasion is ideal for those wishing to improve the skin’s appearance and reduce the signs of aging, congestion, blackheads, dead skin cell build up, mild scarring, pores, age spots and rough thickened skin texture. For best results, it is recommended treatment regimens ranging from six to twelve sessions.
I originally booked in at Loft Beauty Boutique for Dermaplanning, a new service they offer. Dermaplaning also known as Epidermal Levelling. It is a simple and safe procedure for exfoliating the epidermis and ridding the skin of fine vellus hair (peach fuzz) of the face.
Lisa, an expert took a good look at my skin. We discussed my concerns and we determined that a Microdermabrasion treatment would be best suited for me, so naturally, I took her advice. The procedure we paired with a facial to finish and my skin, was perfect.
So Why Microdermabrasion? Well, a few reasons; I was about to go overseas and I was keen to rock the no-makeup look. Secondly more recently I have been spending more money getting things like Botox and investing in salon only skincare. Microdermabrasion is said to make it easier for these high-tech skin care products to penetrate into the deeper layers of the skin and help build collagen, which gives skin its youthful appearance. Makes sense right.
The Procedure was simple. The machine is built with crystals such as sodium chloride, aluminum oxide, magnesium oxide and diamonds which are pressurized by the pump to produce an abrasion of the skin. The vacuum raises a small section of the skin which the machine works on and thereafter removes the crystals and abraded skin cells. Therefore, the speed of the machine over the skin and the number of passes made determines the effectiveness of the treatment. The skin is stretched to achieve tension in the area in order to get the best abrasion. Straight after the procedure my skin was a little red but by the time I got to my car that had gone down. I woke up the next morning with vibrant glowing skin.
Is it worth it? At loft Beauty, Microdermabrasion costs around $90 for a 30-minute session and for an extra $50 or so you can include a facial which I do highly recommend. This brings the treatment to the $140-$160 mark.
Yes, that does sound pricey but remember this is not a treatment you can do it home. It requires a pen-like machine that uses a spray of microcrystals to remove the outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells. I also believe these results for me last longer than that of just a facial.
Overall the treatment did what it promised, I left with smoother skin and the days and weeks after my skin was still on point. My makeup, as a result, sat better and I felt more confident. Would I book in again? 100% yes.
So next time you book for a facial maybe add on Microdermabrasion and give it ago.
