I'm all about balance and living life, your health and fitness should be a lifestyle but sometimes, and this is me right now, you might also be going hard on an eating and workout plan, and that's cool too. Long weekends, holidays and social events, however, shouldn't get in the way. You can do it all; it's just about being prepared and focusing. With a trip to Wellington on the cards here are the top tips I will be implementing to get me through the Holiday weekend.

  1. Make your flight times work for you. I am flying with Jetstar NZ to Wellington, and they had multiple flight times to choose from. I picked Midday so I can get up, get my workout in and then hit the airport. It is the same story for the flight home. Returning for 3 pm, so I can pop home turn the washing machine on and get that Monday sweat session in. I have also planned my trip around a rest day! I am a smart cookie.
  2. Pack essentials to help you. One thing I struggle with is getting enough protein into my diet. Protein is one of the most important supplements for muscle tissue repair and growth and can also assist with weight loss goals, by keeping you full for longer. For this trip, I will be packing my protein powder, my shakers and some quick snacks. Helpful because my trusty cheese pizza cheat meal has No protein!
  3. Consider Hotel and Trip plans. Prepare to succeed. Saving more on flights with Jetstar NZ allowed me to be more fussy with my hotel and spend more here. The hotel I have selected is walking distance to everything, has a kitchenette and includes breakfast each day. I have already scoped the buffet and come up with some healthy options that match my plan. I've also made sure my off plan meal is an AMAZING one. For longer trips, look for a hotel that has a gym maybe so you can get your workouts in. Plan your trip, so you have the best of both worlds.  I have a rough idea as to what is going on, and I have booked my hotel to help me.
  4. Water - keep hydrated! Water is something your body needs and loves and will save you over the holiday. Stay hydrated in the lead up to your trip and make sure you take a bottle of water on the plane with you.  When you are traveling on a plane, the cabin must be pressurized, and fresh oxygen must be provided to the passengers, as it simultaneously cycles out the old air. However, the air outside of a plane at 35,000 feet tends to be extremely dry with low humidity. This tends to reduce the moisture within the body, even if it is a short flight!  Furthermore, often we find we are constantly on the go, so water is the last thing on our minds. I am packing a backpack with me and taking a bottle of water, so I have water on me at all time.
  5. Don’t stress the small stuff. Remember you are on holiday! This is life. Look after yourself and have fun! Don’t stress the small stuff. We’ve known for some time that stress is connected to weight gain because a high level of the stress hormone cortisol has been shown to up appetite, drive cravings for junk€ food, and make it oh so much easier to accumulate belly fat. So let's not stress. Enjoy the break and know that your body will look after you. Jetstar NZ have an amazing Ham and Cheese sammie, well I am having it. It might not be on my plan, but It's all about balance, and I won't be stressing about the small things.

For me, I'm looking forward to my getaway. I am going to be relaxing, exploring the sights and even though I have goals nothing should get in the way of me living life and being the best me.
