I try: Cosmelan by Mesoestetic: How it Works, and the Process - Part One.
Wedding prep is well underway, and the big-ticket item this wedding prep was the Cosmelan peel by Mesoestetic. I had seen this programme utilised by Drew Barrymore, Jenna Tatum and Trisha Paytas (yes bad example) and it is known as the crazy peeling facial you’ve seen all over your Instagram….and now you will find it on mine.
What is Cosmelan?:
Cosmelan is designed to target unwanted pigmentation and involves some serious commitment if you want to improve your complexion. It is a comprehensive six-month program that includes in-clinic treatments and specialised home care. And yes, it is the most expensive peel of my life, but if you break down the costs and the included skincare it’s not as bad as you think.
For my treatment, I went to Holly at Silk Space clinic, and you can read all about it on her website. Holly was a total gem and she took some images for me too! I choose Holly because this is my face, and Holly is looking after me pre-wedding and she is home to the epic Hydraglow facial!
Phase One:
Before anything kicked off Holly did a consult of my skin, she checked my skin barrier and determined if this was the best path for me. I was excited when Holly gave me the all-clear and we began the process.
It was Cosmelan Peel application time! The first phase of the two-step program is performed in the clinic where the skin is prepped, followed by the application of the de-pigmentation mask. The mask is then left on the skin between eight to 12 hours, depending on your skin type, and washed off at home with the aftercare products provided. Holly, my therapist recommended 11 hours for my skin, so I was in for a long night.
Holly then explained to me the home care products and sent me not one, but two documents on how to use them. She’s a total gem, picture instructions and written instructions. She made it foolproof.
This regime includes a cleanser, toner, serums, moisturiser, mask and sunscreen. After three months you can return to your normal routine, but they do recommend you continue on the Cosmelan 2 treatment serum and sunscreen to maintain your results.
At Home and the next 5-7 days.
Once I got home, I actually packed up my old skincare and replaced it with my new Mesoestetic products. . I was so excited.
The next 5-7 days, After the peel has been removed the skin may be red, tender and present with some swelling. This is all very normal and part of the process! After 2-3 days the skin will begin to peel or shed and the results from your treatment will start to show through. It’s these peeling parts I’ve seen all over Instagram.
Next Steps:
After six weeks I will be back in clinic for Holly to re-apply any remaining peel on any stubborn areas of pigmentation. We use Cosmelan 1 and restart the process.
Im sharing my journey, because I am so excited! I have already posted on TikTok with my excitement!
